Brain-Compatible Instruction

Hope College and Ottawa Area Intermediate School District

A group of educators wanted to make a unique, brain-compatible online course for teachers to take from home. We worked with them to determine a format and delivery mechanism. Students can submit their assignments via HTML forms and the instructors review the sumbissions and provide feedback.

After a successful pilot test, the course began with its first class in August 2005 and is available to educators all across the state. A second course was developed in the same system and began in January 2006. Today, five different courses, integrated into one system are in active use.

The courses, and their custom CMS were built using Ruby on Rails, rewritten in a single day from an initial PHP implementation to speed future development.
